Negative Interest Rates: Not Without Consequences
For China’s domestic A-share market, higher participation from foreign investors, especially institutional investors, is a positive development as it can provide greater breadth in the near term and, longer term, can help drive the push for better corporate governance, a better regulatory framework and stricter enforcement.
While emerging markets remain sensitive to macroeconomic indicators and global monetary policy—which means volatility is likely to persist for some time—we see signs confidence is returning to emerging markets and believe it is likely to continue.
The lower and lower interest rates a number of central banks are introducing in an effort to boost economic growth simply haven’t been working to accomplish that in a meaningful way.
